Stuart Rudolph to Speak at Smart Grid Deployment Consortium Symposium
Remote Intelligence Solutions President Stuart Rudolph will speak at Street Solutions for a Smarter Energy Future, a Smart Grid Deployment Consortium symposium taking place on September 25, 2026, at Penn State Harrisburg.
The symposium brings together utility professionals, engineers, researchers, and technology innovators from across the Appalachian region to explore practical approaches to grid modernization, distributed energy resource (DER) integration, energy demand management, and emerging grid technologies.
Asset Inspection in the Age of AI
Stuart will present “Asset Inspection in the Age of AI,” exploring how advances in artificial intelligence are changing what utilities can achieve with the information collected during infrastructure inspections.
Utilities already generate large volumes of valuable field information — photographs, asset attributes, inspection findings, geospatial data, and engineering observations. The opportunity is to move beyond treating this information as the output of individual inspection projects and instead build a structured, persistent operational record of the grid.
Done well, today’s inspection data can support not only immediate maintenance and engineering decisions, but also future analytics, AI/ML applications, infrastructure planning, and a continuously improving understanding of the assets utilities will operate for decades.
This is central to RIS’s work with UTELinspect, which helps utilities turn inspection and asset information into structured operational intelligence.
From Asset Intelligence to a Smarter Grid
The symposium will also feature a live demonstration of Penn State Harrisburg’s HILLTOP+ Laboratory, led by Dr. Peter Idowu and his team. HILLTOP+ provides a real-time grid modeling environment for exploring utility and business scenarios.
The combination highlights an increasingly important challenge for utilities: sophisticated modeling and AI capabilities depend on having reliable, structured information about the physical infrastructure they are intended to represent.
